After looking into the issue, the message is doing exactly what it is
supposed to be doing. When encoding a message for transmission, it is
supposed to replace "." characters like you are experiencing. It is the
responsibility of the receiver of the message to strip the extra characters
off during receiving of the message. This is by design in the various RFCs
that standardize message transmissions.
